Step Up

Image
After 10 months of distance learning, it has come to an end. I can't say that it was neither good nor bad but hey, I am finally stepping on another chapter of my life, the senior life of high-school. Expecting more hardships, endless tasks, and challenges.  The pandemic has undeniably awakened enough realizations in my life. How important education is, how people struggle when they're at their worst, and the essence of living. It's just sad that there are still someone that died because of the virus, gave up on life because of loneliness, affects everyone financially, mentally, physically, and economically. But one thing is for sure, there must be someone that still supports them, and that is God. Arms wide open as they reach his sanctuary.  Depressing as it may seem, we must go on with our lives, continue what they left, and face more challenges. Cheers to another chapter! (Unsure if I passed)

Yes To Green

The only way to live comfortably, without upsetting our planet earth, we need to apply the 3Rs; REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE. Thus, it is significant to forsake such exploitations against the Earth.  Reducing refers to lessening garbage, Reusing refers to using certain item again such as glass bottles and clothes, and lastly, Recycling, it refers to creating a new product instead of dumping it into the trashcan.  With these initiatives, we can already save or at least prevent the Earth from dying. With just picking up tiny garbage, pollutions and other environmental issues can be prevented. Think smart, be innovative, and help our future generations.

Independence Day

Image
June 12 is a regular holiday in the Philippines, celebrated annually on June 12th. It is the National Day of the Philippines.  Known in the Philippines as 'Araw ng Kalayaan', or 'Independence Day', this day commemorates the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12th 1898.  United against the Spanish with the American forces, over 300 hundred years of Spanish rule was brought to an end when Aguinaldo proclaimed the independence of the Philippines in Kawit, Cavite, on June 12th 1898.  A year later, some Filipino's started to feel that all that had happened is that Spanish rule had been replaced by American rule, leading to the Philippine–American War. The result of that was the suppression of Filipino insurrection and ongoing American occupation with limited self-rule.  It wasn't until July 4th 1946 that the islands gained their full independence.  The independence from America and Japan on July 4th 1946 was celebrated as the Phili...

A Loving Woman

Image
Celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May, this one day commemorates the spirit and overwhelming contribution of a mother to a family and to her children. It is an occasion for kids, children and adults alike to stand back, pause and introspect on the gift of absolute love they have continually received from the source of their very sustenance and to show their appreciation and respect and love for that one person who have been there for them, under all circumstances.    A mother works round the clock to keep her family nourished, nurtured and cared for. In return she neglects her own wants, desires, even needs. She is the one who receives no break from her duties. She has no holidays, no rest time and no respite and needs to be on call and on her feet at all moments. Such a person deserves all the respect and care and more and this is one day one can go about making her feel so special. Not that one should not, on the rest of the days. So show all your lo...

Cultural City

Image
The "Heritage City," as Vigan is known, bursts into merry colors through its Binatbatan Festival, luring hordes of local and foreign tourists to its streets lined up with ancestral houses.  The festival got its name from the Iloko term batbatin, or separating cotton balls from the seeds of the local fruit tree kapas sanglay. The cotton balls are then spun and used in weaving the abel, which Chinese merchants then residing in Ciudad Fernandina, the Vigan of old, exported and which was among the local products shipped during the galleon trade from the 15th to the 18th century. Abel products were showcased during the festival.  Various events happened other than the street dancing, are traditional games, bankathon and fishing competition, carabao painting contest, boklan art contest, glass mosaic contest, gayem parade, Holy mass in honor of Apo Lakay, ramada games, dog show, santacruzan and, fun run and abel-iloco design and fashion competition, and abel–house décor set up...

Let It Be Heard Once More

Image
They always say that women are inferior to men, when in fact, men and women are all equal. Women are always expected to dress properly, act feminine, and caring, women are expected to be housewives, women cannot be doctors, pilots, construction worker, or a leader, and expected to be dramatic unlike men that is supposed to be bold. These are examples of stereotypes created by the society, completely unfair and biased, and can cause inequality among men and women.   Back in the days, men are more superior than women, neglecting the roles of women in society, believing that women are slaves, and this is known as misogyny. Misogynistic people are equally worse as criminals, abusing and taking advantage of them, such as sexual and physical assault. It’s undeniably horrible to women whom experienced these maltreatments. And as days, months, years, decades passed by, women started to fight for their rights, letting their emotions pierce through oppressors, using their voic...

The end of school year is coming up so quickly. And this quarter's lesson became unexpected as it is similar to research. It is hard, yes, but if I look on the bright side, it makes me appreciate our culture, embrace our tradition and discover a more diverse and amazing hidden gems in our community.   I am hoping that the coming last quarter of this year would inspire me to become motivated and avoid such circumstances.
