Let It Be Heard Once More

They always say that women are inferior to men, when in fact, men and women are all equal. Women are always expected to dress properly, act feminine, and caring, women are expected to be housewives, women cannot be doctors, pilots, construction worker, or a leader, and expected to be dramatic unlike men that is supposed to be bold. These are examples of stereotypes created by the society, completely unfair and biased, and can cause inequality among men and women.

Back in the days, men are more superior than women, neglecting the roles of women in society, believing that women are slaves, and this is known as misogyny. Misogynistic people are equally worse as criminals, abusing and taking advantage of them, such as sexual and physical assault. It’s undeniably horrible to women whom experienced these maltreatments. And as days, months, years, decades passed by, women started to fight for their rights, letting their emotions pierce through oppressors, using their voice to stand for equality and showcasing what they can do as much as men do.

Starting from Gabriela Silang, a woman who stood against the Spaniards. Melchora Aquino, also known as “Tandang Sora”, contributing hospitality to the wounded revolutionaries, letting her house become a hideout for the “Katipuneros”, and acting as a mother for them. Josefa Llanes Escoda, founder of Girl Scouts of the Philippines and an advocate for women’s rights. Miriam Defensor Santiago, a late Filipino senator that provided a powerful aura and intelligence, proving that she could be a country’s leader. Whang-od, a Filipino woman and also a deserving national artist by her overwhelming dedication as the last Kalinga tattooist and indigenous practices despite her old age. An equal balance between men and women would be a benefit to the medical profession, to the patients, working environment and shaping the politics of healthcare. Women can also do heavy jobs, such as construction worker, mechanic or join the military. Of course, we should not forget that women are the reason that we are healthy and living, thanks to them for carrying us in their wombs, enduring the pain and hardship during and after pregnancy.

Now is the time to recognize women’s contribution to the society, culture, and history. Let all of us join the advocacy to achieve peace, prevent war between the two, and embrace each other as we continue with our lives. Surely, it will not step one’s ego and you can be a great help in influencing ignorant, mentally unstable, uneducated, sexist and misogynist human beings.
